Storing logs in piles

The negative of this method though is that you are lifting all you logs one extra time. As volume increases this can become a problem. Also it limits the number of deliveries you can do in one day.

Hi,

 

I leave our logs outside in a covered store on pallets see pic below that the wind can blow through to season, a few pallets a the back help shelter from driven rain.

 

In the next month or so I will cut to size, split & stack into the nearby wood shed which is open at one end with an opening at the back to allow good airflow. The cut wood is stacked on pallets to keep it off the deck & nice & dry, never had any problems.

Problem we found was there could be a 10% difference in the mc between the centre of the pile and the outside.

 

 

 

 

Much easier to pile them in bags.

So do you never bother to cover the bags outside?

We use single bag tarps. 1.8mx1.2m cost around £5 each or we build into stacks of 12 and use bigger tarps

 

We do have some which didn't get covered at all but they will be for selling next season.
