Is larch worth milling ?

The larch is actually my stock, but it's only for planters, so it doesn't need to be top notch.

We've got a four side planer which has seen a lot of use in recent months for T&G cladding, but I'm particularly excited about the prospect of an edger, for resawing those first waney edged boards you cut as you square your way into a cant. Resawing them is a major pain and an edger might be a touch more wasteful, but worth it in the end.

Hey J,

you ahve a logosol i think (like me) has the cladding been using the jibs on the top or bottom head or just side cutters (obviously depends on the profile) I have ran out fair bit of T&G and vee groove T&G but never used any of the top or bottom profiles, just wondered if you had and what they are like.

Thanks, John

I shall have to check! I have a tame cabinet maker that does the machining for me. :thumbup1:

Absolutely Yes!

We're building a barn with Larch at the moment.

Not sure if you've seen it but there was a Channel 4 Grand Designs house in Monmouthshire (near Tintern Abbey) that used Larch and they were required to have it strength tested (because it was a bit of an unknown).

The results came back way stronger than other wood varieties.

Cheers, Steve

I've been getting my head around a PH260 over the last year, but we've just moved and getting it set up in a new workshop. The top and bottom knives are quite clever and straightforward, I'll do a bit of a thread when the power and dust extraction are on. W
