3 point linkage skidding grabs

I see they also do a multipurpose backhoe/crane job, like the old Mcconnel powerarms, do you know anything about those?

We've brought a few over from another manufacturer in the past which were similar - they're never going to be as good at lifting as a "proper" crane or as good at digging as a "proper" backhoe but as a dual purpose item they're pretty good.

We had a fransguard just like that at Birdsall - was a craking little wich and worked well behind our old 3000 as it was light too.

I have a backactor with the bucket removed which works well. Shackle in each bucket mounting point. Single chain for sledding two chains for lifting bundles

That's a great way to knacker all the bushings real quick !!

I'd be looking at forestry winches if i were you, second hand they are cheap as chips. I had an old Igland which cost me 400.00 off ebay.

If you look at the BGU machine mentioned earlier in the thread it is basically the same design as a backactor.

The BGU stacking grab bears very little resemblance to any kind of back actor. Its a straight design with no dipper boom. A conventional timber crane has more in common with a back actor, and would suffer similar high wear if used for grapple skidding.

Thats not to say that a back actor boom wont suffice for occasional use.
