I like the idea but not sure it would cope with the stuff we have over here like the chunk of oak I had to chainsaw off the posch today.

 

Didn't see the spec for above machine, but looks like a 20 or less ton ram, so yeah wouldn't cope with everything. Was that a split that closed around a 4 way or bigger knife on you? Must a been a pig of a lump.

 

One disadvantage on above splitter to the traditional hydraulically adjustable 4-way knife, is that ability to lift knife upwards as billet splits through allowing for better separation and fast shearing.

was a 4 way blade and about 3ft diameter and when finally got the thing cracked there wasn't a straight grain anywhere in it.
