I've to complete a job tomorrow by hanging a gate on a post and rail fence, now the problem with wooden gates is ofcourse the fact that due to the rigid metal straps on the gates there is no adjustment for levelling unlike steel gates with there adjustable eye bolts,

So what's the easiest way to get gate level is it easier to but in top hook attach top strap and then level with bottom strap if you know what I mean.

Are you not using a threaded hangerpin on the top strap and a shorter knock in pin at the bottom?

Or are you using bolt on plates.

We have some 6 foot wooden gates here that have hangers that bolt onto the side of the gate which and have threaded adjusters.

Yeah I am using that type of hooks it's the straps on the gates that are rigid,

I was just remembering if that I once used 8 inch eye bolts, through the actual gate onto the hooks this allowed adjustments from both eye bolts and the hooks,

It's reminded me that I got 10 inch ones made for another job.

I must get more made,

if your post is upright, the gate is true and you put your straps on equal it should be level.

do you not have an adjustable bottom strap ??

Just get an adjustable bottom strap, then when the gate sags o er time its just a simple case of tweeking the adjuster.

I always fit them
