Looked at a job today, just 3 small (8" dia) sycamores to come down & gave him a price which he accepted. I'd previously done the tpo check which was clear but the garden is in a conservation area.

Me "Just complete the permission form online, theres no charge". Him "Oh can't we just claim ignorance?". Me "Err, no, fill in the form & when I see permission is given we'll happily do the job". Him "Oh I didn't know you'd be so picky". Us "See you". Customers eh?:001_rolleyes:

When you quoted the job did you not look at the logs he wanted cut or at least say you were happy to cut up clean logs, but would not cut dirty wood.

 

Managing customer expectations is a very important part of business, IMO.
