I got stop go signs off the net, very strong build quality. Good price to but I don't remember where from.

 

 

The "stop works" board is different to "stop / go" boards Hodge.

 

It allows (from memory Matt!?!) 2 mins temporary stopping traffic for an unscheduled event and has the potential to be less admin / application / SLG heavy when used iaw the appropriate conditions in the book.

I'm surprised it's not in common use in arb. You could, for example, rig a branch, deploy stop works as you do the back cut, drop in the road and be cleared away within 2 mins.

 

I haven't done it, and I'm sure someone will find a valid reason why not, but it seems to achieve compliance?

Hi Kevin. I haver never seen on either in use, or in any regulatory documentation. I can feel a little research coming on.

 

TBH I stop for lollypop ladies (and gents)..... I am not sure I would take that much notice of that!

You can't stop 2 way traffic with stop go boards, if you can't work out why then you shouldn't be working on the highway at all.

 

Temporary lights can be used to stop traffic, but they don't work if there is a line of sight between the two queues of traffic.

Actually I think the reason stop works signs work so well is that people are used to stopping for school crossings. They work really well if your near a school......

When I did my NRSWA course, we were told that stop/go boards gave you an allowance of two mins to stop the traffic. No mention of a stop works sign was made.

I would imagine that more motorists are familiar with stop go boards than stop works ones

I've never had a problem doing it. So long as you have plenty of signs out and hi viz vests then people stop when you put both signs on stop.

If you've got lane restrictions in place, then yes you can use them exactly as you would temporary lights.

 

You can use one stop works sign like a school crossing sign though, and you can't do that with one stop go board.
