Pete's very perceptive...

I think a 2.5 - 2.8 tonner would be essential, as thats what a lot of pickups are restricted to.

The chipper spec would be as follows - Choice of 38 hp Kohler command, or 35hp turbo diesel. 8 inch by 12 inch capacity. choice of gravity feed like the Jo Beau, or twin roller hydraulic feed. Chipper would have the option of being turntable mounted so you can feed from either side.

Is there much difference in weight between the petrol and diesel options, and having feed rollers?

Obviously the less weight in the chipper equals more payload.

With the smaller chippers, is there any way you could have it demountable from the trailer and wheel it around like the smaller Jo-Beaus?

My honest opinion is that the gravity feed version with the 38 kohler would be an awsome little chipper. Ive used the JoBeau with 24hp and it works very well.

Diesel and Hydraulic feed are offered because so many people will want them. It would be very easy to make it so the chipper could be removed and wheeled away - possibly with a little swing lift crane.
