Evening all,

NEWBEE ALERT :001_huh:

I am looking into processing fire wood as a part time business I all ready have been selling the scraps from doing chainsaw carving and it sells well.

So could anyone point me in the rite direction as to where I can get a supply of logs for processing I live in Orkney far north of Scotland.

Thanks Alan

Evening Orkneyalan,

Sorry I can't help with your request for logs but I 'm just thinking that you must get through one heck of a lot of firewood in a season in your part of the world? Also not many trees on Orkney I guess?

My best man farms on the outskirts of Wick (Noss Head) and bought an artic of windblown softwood from the Navidale Estate a few years ago. He wasn't able to buy locally because it was all contracted to biomass.

How were you thinking of getting it to you - out of Scrabster?

Hang on a tick; there's a man from Sussex living halfway from Wick to Castletown; he bought a small softwood forest a couple of years back to supply his own biomass burner for a handful of houses. If I'm not missing the point entirely re your needs I could contact him as a potential source of timber.

Any idea on the price/ availability of chip/firewood logs up that way, I'm a harvesting contractor in Aberdeenshire and have a fairly ready supply but would it be viable putting a few loads on the boat from Aberdeen?? Interesting to know

I was thinking if I could get a source of timber far enough north i would take it back via scrabster if your guy would be interested in selling i am defiantly interested.

Cheers Alan
