Giant Coast Redwoods ~ a Must-See ~ 2015

I also enjoy pausing to look at the old stumps. This one is near Avenue of the Giants. Even the stump has a fragment of living cambium remaining.

This was a pleasant spot to relax a few hundred feet off one of the trails.

Change of pace from big trunks. A simple portrait in the old growth redwood forest.

Exploring. A certain tree is not shown, but behind those trunks stands one of the world's largest Port Orford cedar. It was an unexpected find. This photo is taken across a tiny valley from one side to  the other.

Expedition Old Growth facilitated a climb at the Trees of Mystery's brotherhood tree. About 10 feet diameter at 110 ft.

I didn't realize what the climber to the left was doing when I took the photo, but have a fair guess. The day before, bats flew out of a tree cave at this spot. The man on the right is NBC's videographer, who got a bit stressed. I think the climber paused to tell the story to take the man's mind off other stuff for a moment, flapping arms like bat wings to explain.
