all good points there , i was thinking of fitting new roof on to my chip box thats hinged at the front with gas struts on eack rear corner so that i can lift it up when chipping as i find on windy days the chip goes everywhere but in the end i felt it was way to much trouble .

Yeah that would be good. Like a tempory additional height at the back. I had looked at that and it may still happen. One issue is the ladders would have to be removed before the flap could be raised and I hardly ever use ladders but can't bring myself not to carry them.

If the roof goes right to the back of the tipper (or very nearly) then most chippers should be able to get the chip into the back without it going everywhere.

In the original pics on this thread, the box is just under 8foot long (8ft sheet folded at the ends) and the tipper is 9 and bit feet long. There will be another piece atached to fillin this gap and that will come out over the tailgate a bit to help prevent side loss due to wind.

nice , i cant decide on weather to have a full lenght roof a three quater length roof or thay with a 4 foot roof , the tipper is nearly 9 foot i think , at the moment wh have a chip box that we can move ie when we are on small jobs the box goes to the back so that the sides are level the back of the tipper that way we have room to put the climbing gear etc on the front of the tipper by the cab meaning we only take on truck .

You need a bit of space at the back so you can stand up and have logs passed to you, i.e. you cant have a full lenght roof. Other than that the longer the better IMO.
