Fitting an 8 tooth Rim Sprocket to a Stihl 038

Hello,

 

If I fitted a 8 tooth Rim Sprocket to my Stihl 038 how many extra links do I need in the chain on a 20" bar? I think it is normally 72 links.

 

Will it cut much quicker over the standard 7 tooth?

If it was a 7 as standard then you will probably be ok with the standard 72 Dr . It will only cut faster with a relatively short bar though . Might bog down on a longer bar as you have sacrificed some of the torque .

038 Super, 67cc

 

038 Magnum, 72cc.

 

Anyway, an 8-pin usually doesn't mean that you need any extra dl, but it has been known to happen....

There is only one way to find out how well it works for you, and rims are cheap.

My expectations wouldn't be high unless it is a Magnum though, but it depends on a lot of factors.
