Another one for the a 372XP with a 24" bar

She's an expensive wife, it would be cheaper to buy the saw myself. I had thought about a 560xp but I am just nervous about all of the electronics on it.

I had been looking at buying a 365XP in the new year then porting to make into a 372. But my wife bought me a 372XP with 24" bar for Christmas and what a saw it is. Compared to my Stihl 038 & 064 it seems so much better, less vibration and cuts quicker, seems to use less fuel. Will also get an 18" bar which I assume will improve the performance as it has less chain to pull. Even though I have just had a new clutch fitted to the 064 costing over £150 I think I will sell it as I cannot see any need for it now. I will keep the 038 just as a backup saw. I can highly recommend a 372XP, and may even look now for a smaller Husky to run along side it.

Hello, If I fitted a 8 tooth Rim Sprocket to my Stihl 038 how many extra links do I need in the chain on a 20" bar? I think it is normally 72 links. Will it cut much quicker over the standard 7 tooth? Thank you Andrew

How can I buy the 25ltr containers of Aspen? Most of the dealers only list the 5ltr at about £19 which makes the change expensive. I am in the West Midlands.

Well I am excited now that I have decided to go 365 x-torque and looking forward to the first day ringing. Also I will look at modding once I have put a few tanks of fuel through it, hopefully it will be fairly straight forward as I have the tools to carry out the work. Very useful advise and opinions given here, much better than from a Stihl/Husqvarna dealer who will probably suggest the model he makes the most money on. Thank you all, Andrew

Thanks Stubby, at the price I think the 365 is looking like a good choice. Do you have any photos of a before and after grinding the fins, and I assume this would void any warranty?

Thanks all. I think I am at MS362, 555 x-torque, 365 x-torque stage, and I am not sure I would get the full benefit of the XP range, but I also do not want to buy the wrong saw for me. Didn't want to go below the 58-60cc mark and around £500'ish which possibly rules the MS out. Thought about second hand but you never know what you will get so there would need to be a few hundred pounds saving just in case there is a major repair. Main reasons I think people sell a newish saw 1/ use it for their job everyday so makes sense to change on a regular basis, would have done a fair amount of work. 2/ Starting to get problems so need to sell before costing too much, which would then cost me. There appears to be a lot of ex-council saws on offer that aren't that old, not sure if they would be good buys. I was going to stick with Stihl but for some reason I just fancy a Husky. Andrew

Want does the XP stand for? The 555 looks like it has the same x-torque engine, just a bit down on power. Just when I think I know what to buy I read more and get confused again. Looking for a saw that I can use on a Saturday, put in the shed knowing that when I get it back out 2/3 weeks later it will start and run all day again.

I cannot find a UK based Dolmar supplier so would be worried about spares and service backup.

Thank you for your replies. There isn't much 30" wood and most can be cut in 1 pass with a 20" bar, it is also just cut where it is tipped and the small stuff isn't bundled. Only buy hardwood loads. I was thinking as I have just spent some money on the 064 I would keep this saw for any big stuff as it isn't very often, and then get something lighter and faster with perhaps an 16"/18" bar to replace the 038.

Hello, I currently have a Stihl 038 & 064 both with 20" bars. As they are getting on a bit I am thinking of changing to a modern saw. I have just had a new clutch in the 064. I buy timber by the trailer load and currently have about 50 ton to log up, size range from 5" upto 30". There is 2 of us that work together, cut into 40" lengths then split then cut on a saw bench. Looking for something to cut quicker than my current saws, I have only ever had Stihl's but would contemplate a Husqvarna, my short list is made up of MS362, 440, 441 or 555, 357, 372xp Thought about a 560xp but I am not sure about all of the "High Tech" on it. I just want a good reliable saw that is lighter than the 064 as that seems to be the saw I pick up first, possibly thinking bigger saws cut quicker which I know isn't always the case. What are your suggestions? Thank you Andrew
