Depends what you want lifestyle wise Auckland is modern and good money

Depends who you work for and the cost of living is ridiculous. Many forms in much cheaper regions offer the same rate, less traffic, cheaper housing etc. depends what you want to do with your time off. Auckland is just another big city with poor roading and lots of chain stores.

Personally, I'd look more at Napier, Tauranga, Wellington or the South Island if you like the great outdoors. If you really like the big city life then expect the living costs of the 5th most expensive city in the world.

Nothing too rural as the wife wants access to the shops and other things, personally myself Aslong as the families happy and the work is constant is move anywhere

Sorry, just read your reply. I'd still suggest Napier (fantastic weather, good little city/town, plenty to do for the outdoorsy type and shopper alike), Tauranga, which is a larger, more modern version of Napier (Mt Maunganui is nice) or Welly.

Napier would be my choice too.Cheaper housing in Flaxmere or Hastings.

Unlimited outdoor opportunites.

Why not put your families travel plans on hold for 6 months.

You come over and have a look around yourself and see what fits best.New Zealand is faaaarking expensive and you are not paid faaaaark all sadly. In addition if somewhere dosn't work out,you will be on the back foot with each move to somewhere new with a family in tow.

However it works out,I wish you all the best.

Auckland is nice I've been here 4 months and as long as you find a job where the yard is outside of the center and don't have to use major routes to get to and from home and work its sweet I've never had to deal with any traffic on my commute from silverdale to waimauku plus most tree gangs start stupid early to miss the worst of the traffic I'm in the yard by 6am every morning
