If you were starting from scratch would you always produce G30 spec and get it contract chipped or is there a better business model?

 

Good or bad, I always err on the side of a consistent quality product.

 

I would certainly go for G30 spec due to the research I did on boiler specs but not sure on contract chipped as I prefer to control when I chip to fit in with the sour fell.

Sour felling is not a term that is talked about very often, athough research has shown it can reduce the timber moisture levels.

Normally ring when sap has fallen then harvest summer 2 years after ringing when its dry.

What sort of drop in moisture level do you get on softwood / hardwood ?

The going rate per m3 for arctic loads of G50 chip seems to vary a lot in the SWest. Have you a figure in mind? Thanks

 

Last loads we bought were about £40 /tonne delivered. We would pay more for good quality.

Problem with landowners is getting certification to show woodland is sustainable and will qualify as RHI fuel. At least with your own woodland you can control the paperwork.

 

As for MC looking at a drop from 55% to 30% which some boilers can use but for long term storage we use the solar kilns to dry below 20% then store in IBC containers.

Not sure how it is possible for a supplier to make a margin selling chip unless they own the woodland?

 

e.g. Buy in chip size roundwood £35 tonne delivered / chipping costs / delivery costs to end user.
