Looking for a place in the sun for a week to take my Dad who's recovering from major surgery. Quite fancy the canaries because we've never been. I'd prefer a small family run hotel because you get a more authentic experience and hopefully the option of home cooking! It's just hard to find websites that advertise this kind of hotel and they often run on word of mouth. Thinking around November/December time...

Any suggestions very welcome

Been to Gran Canaria years ago . The beach sand is all like volcanic ash . I would have thought Madeira would be better for a relax .....

His father is recovering from surgery - Madeira while beautiful, is also steep, steep, steep everywhere you go. You don't want to kill the fellow.

Madeira is ace and I've been before. It would be torture for him though as he loves walking but like previously mentioned it's darn hilly! He can walk but is not to do anything over straining. Malta would be good apart from the state of their roads - enough to make anyone need surgery!
