We have a pair of Old MS170 and although they work, they are very tired after almost daily use. We dont fancy lugging a MS341 for miles to find the tree is only a scrawny elm either. So looking at a comprimise. A 341 is certainly overkill for pointing up posts too.

I'm fond of the Shindaiwa 452 or Echo 500 for such work. Both weigh less than 11 lbs, and have far better grunt than the 35cc offerings.

what chain do they use is it normal chain or the pico chain like my 170 as the smaller chain is ideal for hedgelaying as get a thin cut. but have to agree my 170 does grunt on some of the stuff. a bigger saw would be good with a small chain. will check out the echo 500 see what its like

MS 211 runs a 3/8" PM3_ Picco Micro 3. The 3 denotes a low-kickback chain and is .050"_1.3mm gauge. Same as on the MS181.

The MS171 runs a 3/8" PMM3_ Picco Micro Mini 3 and is .043"_1.1mm gauge.
