Thanks everyone for the encouragement ... back in for another hernia now ASAP ... so more frustration ahead just as I have an opportunity to finally have a go at some bigger stuff .... a big windblown oak at the farm up the road !!! Not keen on painting wood either but this piece definitely warrants and benefits from it.

My one hour op turned into a 5 hour op, under general. Shaved the bone of joint, also riped biscep tenedon, so cut and rejoined now have metal work. The other shoulder in 8 weeks time, so i won't carving until next year. Laid up for 4 months gutted.
