Decent sized timber going to it. That's the future

Agreed, Lascos certainly do the job but try processing what they produce and the resulting logs don't look great.

A bit like 1/4ring up large rings then putting them through the processor with a 6 way knife fitted - not a pretty sight!

Roundwood processing at size - that's the future.

Do you really get decent enough return out of firewood to justify all the expensive gear needed to process it??

Its a good question, and what if roundwood prices keep going up? I don't see it going down for hardwood or softwood.

Imo if its your main business its worth doing it with the right kit if its a side line no. There is money in firewood if your selling Good hardwood at anything under £100 m3 your doing yourself out of money. Plenty of people doing 600 t making a good living out of it.

As for the price of cord currently got 18 month seasoned beach at 38 good straight ash at £42 all sub 15 inch

Yes fair points LGW. I think you either need to be large scale and main focus or just few loads getting rid of waste to actually make money at firewood. Anything else means lot of investment for kit which isn't worked hard enough to justify it.
