Coat rack and key rack.

Wanted to find a use for some of the waste from a large piece of great storm oak I had to mill back in the spring. Forged the coat hooks myself (long time since if done any forging) so they're all slightly different.

Key rack has old blacksmiths nails as hooks.ImageUploadedByArbtalk1409085527.452471.jpg.1aa868aac85461fde182df2032da5772.jpg

Think the out come was worth it.

That looks great, the hooks are fab and their slightly irregular shapes really enhance the rustic look without looking messy.

What I'd have done differently, is to just pass a plane over then quickly to take off the milling marks as surface roughness like that makes it much harder to keep clean.

Each to their own though, great pieces.

Thanks for all the feedback guys! Haven't actually hung one on a wall yet... Think I'm going to keep the 3 hook rack for myself so picture will follow shortly.

I did spend a long time sanding them back, but where the knot is in the small coat rack, it keeps changing as it dries. I did wonder about trying to run a piece through the thicknesser, but gave up when I couldn't get to it for stuff stacked on and around it... Maybe next time.
