pete

Its a nice rope imo, i have a 45m one in the shead have rareley use it these days as i seem to buy a new 35m rope every 6 months! and have found i prefere thinner lighter lines after a long time of getting used to them, but i do rate the yale xtc lines ,if you can get it for a good price and are on a budget it would be a good choice !

I just checked this out and WesSpur claim it is not splicable? Any comments on this.

12 Strand ropes can be spliced and in my experience with wire replacement ropes made from Dyneema/spectra splicing can achieve 100% of the original break load

How is a rope given its strength rating? any termination will decrease the strength so how is it measured with no terminations?

There are three main ways of testing a rope for strength.

1. Using lead grips on a specialized rope testing machine. These hold the rope without crushing to achieve a tensile break. The rope is wrapped around a bollard which spreads the load normally resulting in a clean break

2. Fiber testing. This is where a bunch of fibers are tested and the results used to calculate the tensile strength (This is used for very large Diameter ropes)

3. Termination break, this gives you the actual break of a rope in practice. Spliced eyes are placed in the sample then tested. This normally results is a break either in the eye or just behind the splice.

Most manufacturers will quote a testing standard on there reports which outlines which method they have used.
