HELP!!! really sticky sap on my new rope and strop!!

i did a fir yesterday, nice easy job except the sap its all over my strop, saw, gloves, harness and new blaze!!!!!!!!! is there any way of getting it out? ive been told a little bit of turps would be fine on the saw but i dont want to use it on the rope.

any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Use butter, smoother it all over the sap and leave it for 24 hours, it somehow helps to break down the sap. Then wash it out using warm soapy water, soap flakes are best not detergent!

 

I used a stiff plastic brush to scrub away the most stubborn bits, you can get rope brushes, but I've never used them so don't know what they are like.

I'm telling ya it works! i'd probably chuck the rope in the wash, but I was always worried about breakin the glass with my steel core lanyard so wash it by hand, and butter helps make it easier.

the ropes hardly been used!!!! 3 meters out the 37 are clean as!!!! hehehe

put the rope in an old pillow case in the washing machine

Olive oil also works wonders, one of the lads i used to work with would say after a hard day of leylandii bashing he was off home to cover himself in olive oil. It either got the sap off or he had some very strange sexual perversions. Never really liked to ask which!

I think its the fatty acids in the oil that breaks down the sap.
