I once turned one for a friend who is a bit of a wild party animal, always playing tricks. So after I turned it I hand carved it into a penis for him, looked really good, I'll see if I can get him to send me a photo of it.

 

Wouldn't look good giving a wooden penis as a gift for the lathe though

Have you really had posts deleted, i must be mr clean then. Must not derail so ian do i need a faceplate or a woodscrew plate ?

Wood screw plate will be ok for small stuff (spindle work) but the face plate holds it better. The 4" plate would work fine for alot of things.
