New Welder Generator setup

Hi All,

Looking to pick up a welder generator set up, second hand and around the £1500 mark.

Main reason would be to take it on site for welding repair to save hauling kit back to the yard whenever something falls off.

Secondly my new workshop has a very sketchy power supply that wont take running my mig (Tecarc 211) so I would like to be able to put it next door and power the mig, chopsaw plasma cutter etc.

3ph is not essential but if it has it I suppose it could be useful in the future.

I have been looking at some of the MOSA units but is there any others worth looking at in my price range?

Cheers

I am not really the person to advise you as I have very little experience of welder generators. I did see some nice lincoln welders sell at the reading auction a few months ago which must of been 10k plus new about 8 years old and were selling for £1500-£3000. Problem is where do you take them to be fixed if broken. Genset make them as well not sure if any better than Mosa. If you get a 3phase make sure it is properly reconnectable so you can get 2/3 rds of the out put as single phase. Some units will only allow you to pull single phase off ea of the 3 legs. For example if its 6kw you will only get 2kw off ea phase.

i have a 3ph pto generator that runs almost everything but mainly an ex MOD kemppi ps3500 power source thats 350amp with up to 6mm welding rod. it will work tig (AD and DC) and mig 1.2mm wire, also compatible with a remote control so you can change your settings under the forwarder.

i find it so handy just hook it up and away you go cant beat it for agri and forestry repairs

i bought the units separately and you could get the whole set up for under 1500 second hand, new prob 3k for the gen and 3-4k for the welder

Cheers for the replies guys.

Steve- What are the maintenence and repairs like for bits of kit like this, is it something that can be done by myself or should the be periodically sent away to a specialist?

Cheers

The engine will be the same as any other generator so easy to service. The welder end of things is really a case of it works or it does not. If it stops working take it to someone who knows that make of welder. Sounds like stephill are worth a look as they will have a service department. Try to find a machine that has a service agent in the uk and can still get the parts for them. Dont bother with anything chinese.
