Mitox 28LRK with kawasaki engine.

Just wanted to know what peoples opinion on these long reach hedge trimmers are please. I am looking at getting a new LR hedge cutter and the price is about my max..

Nobody has used one of these then. Still unsure as what to buy as the normal Mitox 2 stroke has not got a great rep - was just thinking that the kawa engine version might be OK.

What are you currently running? You could buy a new FS-70 and fit a second-hand head from eBay and stay under £350- this would give you decent kit and a new engine (plus a strimmer!), but make sure you get a good head that's not abused and can be sharpened.

 

Stihl attachments are bombproof- all bar two of my seven attachments are second hand, but the FS-70 engines that run them I keep new.

i have a old wickes multi tool system that is on its last legs + I keep getting bloody shocks from the thing now

 

I do have a FS-55 strimmer that i do not use, should I just get a used hedge cutter attachment and fit that to my FS-55??

 

Would it fit and would it work are my other questions haha

It will work brilliantly. That's by far your best bet, so long as the FS-55 is the loop handle model?

 

Just be aware that the shaft in the FS-55 is flexible, and so if you keep sticking the head into thick woody growth it might break. Never managed it myself and they're cheap to replace.

I use the Mitox 281 multi tool & it's ok as long as you know they are not for pro use. I only bought it as it was only £150 & still had a years warranty left on it.

Earned that back on it's first job & that was 6 months ago.

They are prone to the fuel lines splitting, & the quality is nowhere near the pro stuff yet but they are moving that way.

I would spend the extra if you are using it everyday.

Loop handle and throttle assembly to suit can be had off ebay second hand fairly cheap.

 

Or you could just flog it on eBay for about £150 and buy a brand new FS-70 for £260.

Not sure what to do now. There are not any used hedge cutter attachments on ebay and as you said I may end up getting a wreck.

If you buy a new head you won't regret it. You can get a better engine unit after your first few hedges, and add a pole chainsaw, bed tiller, lawn edger etc later.

 

You can use bike handle machine to cut a hedge if you fold them 90 degrees. Not sure if yours will have this clamp- we used to do it on footpath clearance so we had a bike handle strimmer that could clear grass and then cut the hedge.

 

The Stihl system has the most attachments to my knowledge.

 

Lots of money to be made maintaining gardens on a price per month- investment in a decent combi system was a major step forward for me when starting out.
