what kind of pruning cut is this?

Yep that's the one ! have not seen one for years ...when did you last use it ?

 

I have no idea where I picked it up from. I started climbing in 97 so this is well before my time. Both my brothers have been in and out of tree work since the 80s so could be from one of them. I have never used it to climb on but today had a play around with it. It locks really well on to the rope but when released the rope slips toward the edge of the cam and could easily slip out. Lovely well machined thing though.

There should be a little stiff wire arc on the side to stop it slipping out but some used to remove this to make it easier to get it on the rope .... scary compared to modern times ... Terry
