im still finding this amount of risk taking hard to understand

 

 

Thats simple to answer Rod, I dont take risks, I did it once for the first time in a long time and knew I was doing something grossly wrong, I paid the price.

 

But to me there is no risk in climbing and taking a tree down

 

It is a safe, danger free process, why should we put defeatist provisions in place anticipating something that really shouldn't happen.

 

If we believe the job is so dangerous we need a standby rescuer, wtf are

we doing in the job.

 

It isn't a dangerous job and we shouldn't be thinking that way, I take trees down for a living and am quite confident I can do so without putting the public or myself in danger

Cutting and holding IS safe..

 

What i did was not.. I held overhand and cut

 

Please don't tell me you have never cut and held, because A: I won't believe you and B: You will be the only one on this forum that never has..

 

I did not say I have never done it, but I could count the times on my (uncut) fingers. I was not the one professing to be safety conscious after having cut myself doing something daft.

If I had been employing a proper rescue climber, not a groundie with a ticket, for the last 13 years, if would have cost me in the region of £135K!!! for something that was never needed!!

 

Thats out of my profit not turnover.

 

I'm guessing I would not have my mog or crane.

I can see why you run your business like you do, the main problem for all of us are the un-trained and pikies who take work from us.

If this "competition" was removed we would all be better placed to charge for jobs at a rate that could cover all compliance.

Average of 10K a year- cheapskate!

I've paid out for breakdown cover on my car for the last 5 years....it has never been needed....it's peace of mind however....just in case!

That was the whole point of me posting the thread, I am safety concious.

 

I put the mistake down to laziness and hope others will learn from me posting the thread.

To be honest I feel doing all the climbing is what keeps me fit!!
