If your`e talking about the bar studs loose in the casing,i believe that there may be an oversize repair stud kit available, i think i read this on here but i might be wrong. but it`s still crap. good luck

It started doing that on my 361 so I tried Loctite. It only worked for a few weeks tho. Ended up breaking chain tensioners when I was using it because the studs were pushing the bar off square

so what did you do? loctite the studs in to the case?

Aye I used the loctite to put them back into the oil tank but it would have been the oil that stopped the loctite from working properly. Mines weren't totally stripped so I took the side casing and bar n chain off and tightened the stud right up with the nut. A bit risky I know but it worked

mine hasnt got a nut its just threaded into the casing which is poo

Sorry, I was meaning the bar nut. Once everything was off I screwed the stud in as far as I could then tightened the bar nut onto that as tight as a ducks arse. The nut should come off no bother and the stud should stay in. Should!

Hi again Mitchel, Iv`e checked it out as I also have a saw with a dodgy stud, the original stud is part number 1123 664 2400 which is 8mm x 1.25 thread into the casing, Stihl do an oversize repair stud part number 1115 644 2405 which has a 10mm x 1.5 thread into the casing £2.50 + vat at my dealer. So all that need to do is get the stripped thread tapped out to 10 x 1.5mm, make sure that it`s totally oil free and fix the stud in with Loctite and let set for a bit.

The case is made of plastic I think, although the dealer flinched slightly when I called it that, so best get it tapped out with a nice sharp HSS tap and not some crappy blunt carbon steel tap that`s been rolling about a garage floor for years.

Any small engineering shop could do this in 10 mins, aye and if you do it yourself, and it`s a blind hole, watch you don`t bust through into the oil tank. cheers n good luck.

You need to replace said bolts with the oversize bolts which are stihl part number 1123 664 2405

 

Just take your bolts out, DONT DRILL out the holes as the above p/n are oversize and self tapping and are made to screw straight into the knackered holes. 5 minute job to fix with the above bolts.
