Hi guys, needs some help fixing a strimmer, I believe it's a carb problem. I've stripped it all down. No abnormalities but refuses to run off choke. It runs briefly on full choke but dies again one switched back. Any help will be grateful cheers

sounds like it will need a good ultrasonic clean if you have tried other means of cleaning try low pressure ( no more then 10 psi ) compressed air with a little brake cleaner (carb cleaner is to strong for these little carbs ) if this fails then it's ultrasonic time also don't for get a new diaphragm & gasket kit

Sounds like fuel starvation.is the carb adjusted H&L to give you a fighting chance? Didn't realise brake cleaner was less aggressive than carb cleaner Bill?

Brake cleaners

solvent designed to clean grease, oil, brake dust and dirt from brake pads. Brake cleaner is available in both chlorinated and non-chlorinated versions. The ingredients in brake cleaners are toxic. Take care not to inhale the brake cleaner, and keep it away from automotive paint and plastic parts, as the solvent can be damaging to both of these. The ingredients in brake cleaners are a solvent

Not all cleaners are created equal. As has been mentioned earlier Carb cleaner has an oil base and if used on brake systems, can cause pad/shoe contamination and grabbing. Brake cleaner is an excellent all purpose cleaner but, you have to be familiar with the brand you're using. Some will damage plastics, most won't. There is a separate Electrical Contact Cleaner that dries immediately, leaves no residue, is safe on plastic but, is expensive. Brake cleaner is also harmful to your lungs and well being. Avoid breathing it whenever possible.

Is it a chipper, is it a mower or another broken stump grinder who cares we'll fix it!

My niece brought a little 2 stroke generator with the same symptom running on full choke for 10 seconds then cutting out. I just fired carb cleaner through all the jets and put it back together and fitted a new plug and it now runs sweet as a nut and fires up without choke when warm. After I got it going she told me it was on loan from a friend who bought it two years ago and it has never been used since, still had original fuel in and was just topped up with fresh 50:1 mix.
