I have been using this winch for a few months now and all of a sudden it won't let the wire out. I wasn't using it at the time so I can't really get to the bottom of what happened but it seems that after winding in it wasn't easily retrievable.

I anchored wire to tree and manually pulled it out with tractor thinking that it may of just wrapped round itself but this didn't solve the problem. Coupled with the fact that we are working a long way from home and my reluctance to start taking it apart in the woods.

So I'm really after any advice on what the problem could be and any solutions.

When you anchor it to a tree and drag the cable out with the tractor does it come out?

If it does you need to lay the cable back on the drum under tension so winch the tractor back to the anchor. Are you doing a lot of short pulls?

I did reload under tension, I even winched back in about 5m and it still wouldn't return so i'm confident about it not being a problem with cable overlapping.

check the brake setting on the drum, if you've used it a lot, it might need resetting, our one , on its first outing tangled the cable on the drum, but after a lot of swearing and faffing about getting tie cable back off, and re-winding it under load, hasnt missed a beat, check your manual for the brake settings, its not to difficult, or time consuming to re st
