If you don't do it already......

 

I find that doing the step cuts vertically as opposed to horizontally reduces the chances of premature breakage.

Give it a go and see how you get on.

Not sure I know what you mean.. but it is late

As opposed to doing the traditional cut at the bottom and then from the top of the branch, do the cuts from either side (i.e. with the saw upright not flat).

The type of wood will also make a massive difference, limbs of the same size/wieght etc in say Oak compared to willow or chestnut will behave totally different, with the latter 2 far more likely to snap off.

 

Really just experience or even if ur on the ground wotch the more experienced boys work and cut and dinae be scared to ask them questions.
