Stihl 041av any use?

Just scored a super-cheap doer-uper which I'll do-up for fun regardless.

In use, is this any good on a longer bar than a more modern 60cc saw? I'm just wondering if I would have any actual use out of it since I have (more) modern saws in the 50cc and 60cc range already.

Max rpm is 11k? I guess this is too high to put it in the old-skool torquey bracket?

They are one of those saws that are not worth a fortune - it only starts getting interesting with 070, 090, 076 and Contras.

You can do it up, you should learn something but IMO, you wont pass a 357/361 to get to it:lol:

It's from the same basic family as the 051, 075, 076 etc. so it isn't the extreme high torque/low revs of the 1106 series (070, 090) but still pretty good. It will pull a longer bar than a more modern 60cc saw without bogging down, but it won't cut as fast on smaller stuff. They look and sound good though - a saw to pull out for an occasional bit of ringing up to put a smile on your face (and then put back in the shed before your arms drop off) :001_smile:

They're very torquey saws, very high compression, but most parts are NLA! The points ignition model is preferable as they're the same as the 070 parts. It'll pull a 25" bar happily, but you'll be there all day ringing up.

I don't know how much you paid but they'll generally sell for £1-200 on eBay

Paid £20.

It seems to be missing the fanwheel/flywheel, so it's one to sit on the shelf until I stumble across one.

For £20, I don't really care if it just stays on the shelf in the workshop looking cool!

That said, if anybody wants it for parts, I don't mind breaking it.

:D
