Brown tail month caterpillars

According to my insect book it fits the bill for goat moth larvae. Most often seen around July wandering away from its food supply to spin a cocoon on the ground, after spending up to four years feeding in the tree. The moths don't feed, relying on stored energy, and live for up to one month.

Good find...

The information I found said they like silver birch and there was some trees about, but the thing that threw me was the time of year to be seen but with the seasons not as they should be I think its got confused!
