im half way through fdsc arb there. great college. good resources, very very good tutors (on the whole), well organized. the library however doubles as a creche and you often need to fight your way through hoards of little pikie whippersnappers on agricultural day release. arb department is one of, if not the best in the country... so they claim.

Glad to hear. Thank you. We were thinking it a better idea to be educated where this industry began. Would the certs be the same, in general? Like the ISA, etc? -and would they be honored here in the un- united states?

I agree with the posts above, I finished an ND there a year ago and had a great time.

Some of the lads on the course went to the US for there placement year so I guess that the qualifications are recognized. If I remember correctly they worked for Bartletts. Hope this helps.

Great,

Bartlett is well respected. Good to hear the qualifications will be recognized, I can contact the college too on that, or ISA. Whats the area like where the arboriculture / forestry courses take place? I.e demographics, etc.

pretty rural part of lancashire. lots of little towns dotted about (garstang/longridge) and lots of countyside/woodland. the pennine moors are close by and the lake district national park isnt too far away. the college is about a 20/30 minute drive from preston city centre.

I went to Myerscough in 1997 and finished in 2000. Worked for a year in Chicago for the 'Care of Trees' (formerly Hendricksen the care of trees). Although I was only part-qualified at the time, the skills I had picked up were more valued than the qualifications and knowledge obtained at college. There were people there with urban forestry degrees doing the same job but they seemed to progress into sales and plant health care.
