Cobra tree brace

Age does not necessarily indicate wisdom. I think we all need to calm down and agree to disagree.

To summerise:

- Both systems have their merits

- Each system should be prescribed based on the local average conditions, pests, and any other foreseeable damaging factor.

- Synthetics systems are date tagged and are subject to inspection every 2-4 years. (I'm not sure of a recommended inspection interval for steel cabling there must be one?)

- Different continents have differing recommendations for trees, yes I can confirm fire does exist in the UK however only in some areas and is definitely not a factor in urban areas.

As OP I feel I have gained what I intended to from this thread, and as entertaining as it might be to see this progress further I think I will ask admin to close this thread now. Thank you all

Definitely not a factor in urban areas?

So house fires would not affect a synthetically cabled branch over that house?

What about a car fire parked under a street tree synthetically cabled?

Which begs the question of which cabling system your insurance carrier would recommend?

It's just not an issue Jomoco. If that was to happen the fire would likely render the tree heavily damaged, which would mean a heavy reduction or removal. But if you looking for it here it is:

You win, your right, steel is better.

When all determining factors are taken into consideration; that being an extensive understanding of species morphology & biomechanics coupled with an equally extensive knowledge of available systems & their pros & cons, as well as side tracking all of the very convincing sales literature. Only then, and with an open discussion with the client, can the most appropriate & valid choice be made. Whether that be invasive, non-invasive or non interventionist is irrelevent as the whole situation should dictate what approach to take. And even then, there can be no guarantee that your vision of what will happen in years to come will actually take place.

We listen to others & take heed, we do our own thing & take heed & we occasionally go with a gut instinct & take heed. Ultimately non of it means we are right & hit the perfect solution but it is our job to try & one day we are proved correct & the next day not. This is our lot & we'd be a tad more enlightened if we remain open to all possibilities.

Where does our knowledge come from anyways?? :-)
