Those figures are nowhere near correct for disc bladed machines in my experience. If Saturn's discs are £25 each (for argument's sake) then you are using/renewing 6 blades per machine per month?!? What are you chipping? Houses?

 

No lots of ash and other crap on the railways ✋ when a chipper can be working both day and night 6 days a week it takes it toll on blades. Have used original and copies and not a great deal of difference

am thinking of buying a 160 quadchip, wondering are disc better than flat blades?

Cheaper by quite a bit, in my opinion chip better and smoother but chip quality is lower with lots more chunky bits amongst it.
