Yet another tree ID, please!

Populus balsamifera and trichocarpa buds if rubbed have a clean sharp smell, bit wintergreeny, has been used to clear noses.

 

Has microbial properties, used in perfumes and as a massage oil.Evidently bees use the Poplar resin to make propolis to line their hives to keep out bugs and mice.

Bear in mind that most older varieties of poplar if grown in any number will quickly succumb to rust disease and fail. Fine to grow the odd tree but if you want any numbers then you need to buy the current more resistant varieties. Just trying to help!!

 

That's great help, thank you. Wasn't aware of problems. I'll propagate a few here and there, then, but will look at an identified variety (or mixture) before planting many more. I'd only be looking at about 60 plants, I think
