Alaskan vertical mini mill ~ making a runner

I did make a start on a mini mill ladder setup but it needs more development, time I don't have at the moment.http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/milling-forum/60089-diy-vertical-ladder-mill.html

That looks really good - exactly what I was thinking... (as in pic below). Maybe standardized to run on a set size ladder...

Would be more stable than the mini mill is at the moment and you could run down both sides if you needed to (ok the size of the tree may not co operate in that way...)

There is I think a way of having the mini mill rails on either side of a ladder - although you would need something in the middle to support that side of the mini mill... so as in Steve's pic the Alaskan runs squarely on both mini mill rail sides.

I'll ask again about getting the mini mill rails in one length rather than x2 foot sections...

Mortens way of fixing the ladder is good in that you can also mill in line with the middle of the log...

Re the mini mill guide rails.

Just set it up today - bit of a pita.

1. finding a straight edge 2x6 from a building merchants is hard!

2. the edges of the 2x6 were rounded causing the outside edge to slip off when screwing down.

3. the rails are too short - in trying to fix problem 2 I had to set the rails in 1/4" from the edge to screw to flat surf. getting them to line up is very hard!

Solution - Rob D can you get hold of longer rail lengths? Say in 4ft, 6ft, 8ft etc lengths.

Anyway, I managed to get it all set up in the end and the results are worth it.

RobD did you mange to try out your new mini mill ladder set up as in pic above? Looks good!

Cheers

Still not got any longer lengths of mini mill rails I'm afraid...

Also not had a chance to do any mods of any sort recently - too busy! But it's still in mind.
