Like trying to get Choclate sause from a log

Hi guys, been busy splittin logs and when I was splitting this one it made a hissing sound when first struck. Then once I finaly managed to split the calloused knot all this brown 'choclate sause' colored gunk flew out. Any ideas as to what it is and if its edible?? Cheers

What wood is it ? Beech or sycamore maybe, not certain from your pic.

Was cutting a fallen oak branch the other day when it suddenly emptied a pint of chocolate sauce all over my right boot. Horrible stuff but not that smelly. Had a rotten inner full of goo.

It was ash and the know was under a slight vacume as I hears the hissing.
