I have just had a customer phone me up looking at getting a timber lorry with crane, maybe about the 16 ton mark.

I have no experience with this size truck, anyone know the best place to direct them?

18 tonne is the biggest you can go on 2 axles, 16 would just be a downrated 18 tonner.

No one runs them as timber lorries though, you would need to convert one. I bought an 18 tonne flat with a palfinger crane, and put some bolsters on it. Fitting a timber crane would be simple enough if you didn't want a lorry loader type though. Any commercial bodybuilder could do the work, as for finding one there will be lots on truck trader.

I think we are looking at new, so its a case of where do you buy a new timber truck? I'm guessing you dont just walk into your local MAN truck dealer? Are there specialist timber truck suppliers?

Theres a guy in Cambridgeshire selling his Daf 95 and Timber trailer, both under 5 years old, owner driven in brilliant condition, but I think thats bigger than you want?

Buy a tipper spec chassis cab and then have the body and crane fitted.

Alucar are probably the market leader, they are Finnish but there are companies in the uk that can fit them.
