Ranger 4x4 wont engage

Can anyone help :confused1:

I just purchased a 06 ranger 4x4 and went to drive it onto a grassy area and got it stuck. I had shifted the lever to 4L but drive only went to the the rear wheels. While it was spinning someone had a look underneath and confirmed the front prop shaft was turning.

I had no lights come on to tell me 4x4 had engaged or anything else.

Any ideas?

has it got free wheeling front hubs if it has you need to twist them to the lock position to make the drive engage on the front

on my navara it needs to be stopped to engage 4 wheel. but should have a light coming on saying your in 4 wheel. was it low or high you tried to put in. normaly go into high and if you need then change down into low.

maybe try putting in 4 wheel if it does not come on put in reverse go back a bit then go forward it then may engage if not see if you find someonewith one to have a play

Thanks for all the replies, Hedgesparrow- i went straight for 4 low as I had a big chipper on the back. I will go and have a quick play and see if I can get it to light up
