Yep looks about right. Is probably the Catalan ironwood - Lyonothamnus floribundus ssp aspleniifolius. I was puzzled over the identity of a fairly large specimen of this in a front garden near Hampton, London Borough of Richmond... Nice to put a name to it.

Just happy to have beaten Rob Arb to it for once.

 

I want one of these, the geometry of the underside of the leaves is sublime. I shall investigate hardiness in Scotland.

 

The subsp is apparently hardier - but

Scotland is pushing it, maybe somewhere fairly sheltered or with wall protection sheltered from buffeting winds.

Thanks I have just such a spot. Possibly even making covering it over in deep winter a possibility.

It's your fault for recommending the Book of Leaves (p.421). I wouldn't have got it otherwise.
