There isn't one machine that will do every job. If you are looking to buy something specific and can build a business plan around it (ie buy it to hire out, including back to yourself for treework at a cost effectively passed on to the client) then it may be worth looking into. How many times do you need a MEWP on a job personally? If a lot, then buying a machine similar to what you regularly hire could make sense. If infrequently, I would be inclined to just hire a task specific machine each time you need one.

Well at the moment I don't use one, but more I think about it if I had one I would use it a fair bit, got some big trees and very dangerous/awkward trees coming up. I hate hiring kit I see it as a waste of money, if I bought one and used it, it would soon pay for its self. It would also save my body

You would need a big picker to do big trees though, you would t get a big one for 10k I don't think. You would want a tracked one most likely. I hire a tracked one to do some hedges and it's ok but can be limiting. I think a really good climber is better. As for dangerous trees, do you really do enough to warrant buying a picker? You would be better just hireling one in.

Soon pay for itself?

You'll need to include the regular loler certification, maintenance and repair costs, storage ( even if you have the space now, the mewp will prevent you storing any other things), depreciation. Lots of maths to do - but YOU need to put in the figures based on an honest assessment.

We are all guilty of justifying things based on want as much as need.

It may be worth it, make sure you go in with your eyes open.:001_smile:
