I was on a site the other morning and realised one of the larger saws needed a new chain. The member of staff responsible for saw maintenance then tells me that he had finished the reel and not asked the office to re-order:sneaky2:

Ok it's a nuisance but the local (insert major manufacturer) dealers only 5-6 mile away. So I rang them, yes they have the chain in stock- on the reel and they can make a loop up if I call in.

I start to feel uneasy when the fellow at the counter counts every single drive link and informs me its 85:confused1: "It can't be! Count again" Second count, by him is still 85, my count is 84 and finally he agrees:lol:

Now, he starts writing a label for the old chain:confused1: "you can collect it tomorrow"

I explained my earlier phone call. The person I spoke to is on a break down (FFS)

"Can you supply me 84 links and the joining links, so I can take it away and make it myself?"

"the person who makes the chains is on a breakdown" This is while three other members of the shop staff are sat in the office drinking tea and discussing last nights telly.:sneaky2:

I give in, tell him I'll get it collected tomorrow and leave. When my missus picks it up the following day I realise that it isn't even Oregon chain. I had quoted the Oregon part number on the phone, the shop is full of oregon signs and the assistant even checked the oregon book for the chain width. But it's not bloody oregon chain!!!

Will I buy a saw off this company in the future? I wouldn't buy a spark plug off them.

Sorry for rambling on, but I just wanted to get it off my chest. :001_rolleyes:

Contractor cutting hedges for council had damaged hedgecutter

He was in right panic

Got in car, drove to agents ( 50 miles away) met contractor and mcconnell agent and agreed repairs and authorised repairs to start immediately

Big sigh of relief from contractor

After receiving a PM enquiring if it was a supplier on here, I'll point out that it wasn't. I think that I've dealt with pretty much everyone on this site over the years and received good service and communication every time. It wasn't intended to be a dig at anyone here and I apologise if anyone understood or read it this way.

I think all the dealers on Arbtalk understand the needs of us on the tools and work to fulfil our requirements, which is why I'm so baffled by the attitude of my local dealer. Obviously he doesn't need or want to encourage the custom of pro users.

So a bit thanks to the arbtalk dealers, I know where our money will continue to be spent.
