I would say it is slightly different, the TC-W3 that I use in outboards is formulated to burn at a lower temperature, than chain saw oil.

I use chain saw oil for chain saws, and outboard oil for outboards.

Marine 2 stroke oil is completely different from 2 stoke oil you put in a saw . It is formulated differently because of the different environment an out board runs in .

have to agree marine engines run different from normal 2 strokes run it lean as it has a water jacket if it gets hot it will seize as for land 2 strokes.

complex qestion in the day villiers and the like there was not the 2 stroke oil around today. if i t was my engine and a classic if it said 16 to 1 i would mix it to that spec. but the post who works on s stroke engine may shed more light on this subject.

did run mx bikes 2 stroke. if it has a raditor then if using aspen normal 4 stroke with oil mix if air cooled aspen 2 will run ok in it we ran high octane pump fuel with synthetic racing 2 stroke oil mixed to handbook. as the engines will normaly last 80 hours before needing the engine looked at.

chAin saws run all my kit at 50 to 1 run ok and all my old saws ran on same mix use sthil oil,

Which reminds me of the guy in our village who bought chainsaw oil (tacky oil) and mixed it in with the fuel. Surprisingly, nothing bad happened....well not to the engine. The chain and bar did not fair so well... he ran them until they glowed red and then complained that his new saw got blunt very quickly.
