How do you guys attach the mini mill to the log?

Just wondering if there is any other way of attaching the guide rail for the mini mill rather than using screws into the bits of wood your milling?

How do you guys usually do it? i was thinking of making up some clamps or something like that?

Screw the guide rails to a straight peice of 6x2 or a good scaffold bored, then screw that to the log using 2-3 3 inch screws

I've put the guide rails on some 4x2 but want to try and avoid screwing that to the timber i'm logging or is it to much hassle to bother with?

To be honest screwing is the Easiest way and the screw doesn't really go in the the usable part of the log anyway, not really sure how else u could go about it

I'm on about the vertical mini mill. I'm milling some 6x6 posts and wanted to try and avoid screw holes in them I can't see how i can avoid screwing into the usable wood at the moment???

Ahh I see I was thinking about the first cut with the vertical mill, could be abit of a faff with clamps,

Mill the 6x6 bigger. If you put the top and bottom cut to make it 7-8 you would then have extra to not worry about screw holes. 2 vertical cuts to make 6" then remove the remainder to make it square. Does this make sense?

Use the Alaskan to do the top and bottom cut. Use the mini mill for the verticals, finish with the Alaskan to correct size required.

You could screw blocks of wood onto each end of the log, then fix the plank to these blocks. There would be holes in the ends but not the faces of the posts. I've done this to quarter saw planks from a quartered log but not tried it for posts.
