Not used wordpress but have used Adobe Dreamweaver for all of my websites. It is excellent software although with a bit of a steep learning curve. As with all Adobe software it is expensive (even the student edition is in excess of £100) plus a hosting account so is probably not the way to go for a one off. For ready made templated websites take a look at those from 1and1.co.uk - Domain, Hosting and website solutions

....and google search friendly. No point in spending lots of time/ money designing a good looking website if nobody can find it.

eg, just tried searching "nex elec" on google and your website isn't showing on the first or second page (but this could be if you haven't submitted your site for search engines to crawl).

Submitted to Google this morning. Thanks for trying that.

Andrew, it is well worth putting a Links page on your website if you can so you can swap links with other website providers/ colleagues. Also try to get as many customers who have websites to link to yours particularly any public bodies you do work for. This will greatly increase your google ranking.

Pretty sure google doesn't add so much weight to linking other pages nowadays. It's more important to have good/ accurate content & having a site map may also be of benefit.

.... saying that, it is worth having links to other sites when is deemed to be useful to your visitors > for a better user experience.

The linking to other sites is more a mechanism to get them to link to you ie link swap. Large sites, particularly sites with a high ranking themselves, linking to you does help to move you up the google rankings. A site map definitely helps as well.

I'm of the opinion lately that in any SEO work you're fighting a losing battle, with google changing their algarythyms so frequently. Best to concentrate on the most basic of fundamentals...content
