My wife has bet me that I can't do a side splits like that, so last night project "Split like Van Damme" started. I used to be able to get about a foot off side splits when I was doing Taekwondo, it's a bit further away now but I shall prevail!

What the viewer does not see is the safety harness and wires which were blacked out before the release. No one would be that stupid to perform a stunt like that without the proper gear. even JC Van Damme!

surely to some extent it makes sense that they're reversing, if he falls he only has to avoid one set of wheels, rather than the full length of both lorries?

Your kidding right?, JCVD was wearing a harness and the wires holding him up and lowering him down and up were shot on a Blue screen and blacked out.

There is a making of video of the stunt - it was filmed at the Ciudad Real airport, in one take between 0805 and 0820 in the morning, when the light was correct. He has a couple of wires as backup in case he fell, but it was still real.
