Cleared a few small trees and bushes for a friend of a friend last week who has just moved to an old house thats been left untouched for a year or so. Anyway was talking to her when saws came up and she said there was two old ones in the shed that i could have if the were any use!! So i nipped down for a look expecting to pieces of shite lol and two my suprise one was a stihl 023c and the other a ms440

Anyway on closer inspection the 023c has no chainbrake or clutch but fired up after a few pulls so is going to be converted into a rat smoker!!!

The 440 has no starter or clutch cover tho :( but the engine isnt seized so thinking it might be worth trying to get it started?? What do you lads on here think?? Does anyone have an old starter assembly for it to see if it a runner?? What signs should i look for now to see if its fix or skip?? Many thanks in advance, stewie......:thumbup1:

Hi mate im afraid i searched high and low for them but to no avail :( lol 150!!! Never thought it would be worth even half that lol but tbh i like the feel of it and would love to get it running!! It had a half tank of fuel (now gone!!) And is only 2002 model so i suspect it could be reformed to its former glory in the right hands??

Good news is the 023c is now an up and running rat smoker.... anyone needing any rats clearing up round in the midlands let me no  we use terriers and no poison left and do it for next to nothing no matter how big a job :thumbup1:

Out of interest does anyone no why its all burnt where the clutch was?? I think this one would be impossible to use as a saw again???
