OK, got a post knocker on my tractor which has a tow hitch on it- trouble is in order to be able to hitch up a trailer the post knocker has to be swund round sideways and hence overhangs the rear tyre sideways by about 14 inches.

Fine in a field, but is this legal on a road? Anyone know...

Cheers,

From memory, overhang can be 30cm from the most outer edge of the tractor. Normally the rear light cluster.

And there must be lights showing on the back, either on implement or tractor one visible.

Hmm, I can get the rear wheels arranged so that the wheels are pushed out 3 inches each side ,which would bring the sideways overhang of the implement down to the magic 30cm. If I put a flashing light (like cyclists have ) on the overhang would this count?

The wheel count as overhang. Of course this all changes with dual wheels.

I only know the overhang for standard, as I remember reading it in a manual.

I may have all changed now tho. Will do a search in a min.

Tractor is 7ft wide, about 8ft including the post knocker. It won't be a problem on dual lane roads, but with the lanes around here I'm worried about someone passing me in a world of their own without seeing the overhang! If I took the hammer off the knocker it would be ok, but is a faff every time I go on the road.

as long as it not over 10' wide I would not worry, and if you are worried tighten up the stay chains on the side without the over hang

Good idea, have tightened up the chains as much as they will go, but you've got me thinking I might shorten the length of the opposing one so I can bring it back across even more.
